Before you start

Time logs can be edited as long as they have not been billed for (i.e. added to an invoice).

Review and edit time logs

Manage existing time logs from a project's Time area (or anywhere displaying a list of individual time logs).

  1. Click Jump to in Teamwork.com's main navigation menu.
  2. Search for and select a project.

  3. Switch to the Time view from the project's navigation bar. The Time tab might be hidden under the More... option.

  4. Hover over the relevant time log.
  5. Click the pencil icon on the time log's right.
    ⚠️ Time logs added to an invoice (aka billed) are not editable.
  6. Review the time log's details and update where necessary.
    Who
    Change who the time log is attributed to. You'll only be able to choose other project members with permission to log time.
    Date
    Adjust the time log's date.
    Start & End Time
    Adjust the time log's start and end times.
    Time Spent
    The time log's total duration.
    📝 Click the padlock to lock the Time Spent (duration) field — changing the start time automatically adjusts the end time (and vice versa) so that the time log's time spent is maintained.
    Billable
    Use the checkbox to change the time log's billable status.
    Description
    Add or update the time log's description.
    Task
    Associate the time log with a task or detach the existing task (if set). 
    Tags
    Manage the time log's applied tags.
    Move to Another Project
    Move the time log to another project. We'll cover steps for this in a later section on this page.
    Delete Entry
    Delete the time log from the project.
    Who
    Change who the time log is attributed to. You'll only be able to choose other project members with permission to log time.

Update time logs' billable status

Update time logs' billable status directly from a project's Time area (or anywhere displaying a list of individual time logs).

  1. Click Jump to in Teamwork.com's main navigation menu.
  2. Search for and select a project.
  3. Switch to the Time view from the project's navigation bar. The Time tab might be hidden under the More... option.
  4. Scroll to the relevant time log.
  5. Click the Billable checkbox on the time log's right to mark it as billable. In My timesheet, you'll be clicking a icon instead.
    1. Click the green Billable checkmark on a billable time log to mark it as non-billable.
      📝 The Billable checkmark is not clickable on time logs marked as billed.

Bulk update time logs' billable status

Save time by updating multiple time logs at once within a single project or across multiple projects.
📝 Time logs can only be bulk updated when the view has active filters.
🔑 Only site admins in the owner company can bulk update time logs' billable status.

  1. Go to the relevant area:
    1. Individual project: Click Jump to in Teamwork.com's main navigation menu, then search for and select a project. Switch to the Time view from the project's navigation bar. The Time tab might be hidden under the More... option.
    2. All projects: Click Projects in Teamwork.com's main navigation menu, then select the All time tab.
  2. Click the filters button (Image Placeholder) in the view's top right.
  3. Click into any of the filter options, then apply the filter criteria you want to refine the data.
    💡 You can apply multiple filter options at once for a more tailored view.
  4. Click the ... (ellipsis) in the view's top right.
  5. Select Bulk Update Time Logs.
  6. Choose the time logs' new billable status — mark them all:
    1. Billable
    2. Non-billable
  7. Click Update Time Logs.

The billable status of time logs included based on the active filter criteria is updated.


Move unbilled time logs to another project

  1. Click Jump to in Teamwork.com's main navigation menu.
  2. Search for and select a project.
  3. Switch to the Time view from the project's navigation bar. The Time tab might be hidden under the More... option.
      
  4. Hover over the relevant time log.
  5. Click the pencil icon on the time log's right.
  6. Select Move to Another Project in the time log window.
  7. Choose a project to move the time log to.
    1. Optionally, select a task in the chosen project to associate the time log with.
  8. Click Move Time Entry.
The time log is moved to the chosen project (and attached to the relevant task, if set).

Bulk move time logs

Save time by moving multiple time logs at once.

  1. Click Jump to in Teamwork.com's main navigation menu.
  2. Search for and select a project.
  3. Switch to the Time view from the project's navigation bar. The Time tab might be hidden under the More... option.
      
  4. Click the ... (ellipsis) in the view's top right.
  5. Select Move Time Logs.
  6. Choose a project to move the time logs to.
  7. Check the box on each time log's left to select the time logs you want to move.
    💡 Use the Select All option to quickly select all listed time logs.
  8. Click Move Selected.

The time logs are moved to the chosen project.

📝 When a time log is moved to another project, it is detached from the task it was associated with on the original project.


Best practices

  • Organize: Set billable defaults for projects (and even individual task lists) — set a project's default as billable so that each time a team member tracks time, it's set as billable automatically. They can change it if needs be, but defaults help mitigate margin of error.
  • Review: Periodically review your personal time logs on a regular basis to ensure accuracy.
