Start every new project from a template, so it arrives with the task lists, dates, people and budget your team already agreed on.

What
Create a new client project from one of your site's templates.
Why
You skip manual setup, and every project follows the same proven structure.
Who
Project managers and anyone with permission to create projects.

This is step 1 of 7 in the Project Manager onboarding path. About 10 minutes.

No templates yet? Ask your site administrator, or see Create and Manage Project Templates. You can also start from a Teamwork.com-designed template.

Create your project

1. Choose a template

  1. Go to Projects and open the List tab.
  2. Select + Add Project, then Use a template.
  3. Choose one of your site's templates or a Teamwork.com-designed template, then select Next step.

2. Name it and choose the client

  1. Give the project a clear name your client will recognise, such as "Acme website redesign".
  2. Select the client company it is for.

3. Set the dates

Choose a start date or an end date. Every task and milestone in the template is scheduled from that date.

  1. Choose how weekends are handled: allow dates on weekends, exclude weekends, or move dates off weekends.
  2. Select Preview dates to check the schedule before you continue.

4. Check the people

The project includes the template's members by default.

  1. Add or remove people, teams or companies.
  2. Set yourself, or the person running it, as the project owner.

5. Choose what to bring across and create the project

  1. Select which items to copy from the template, or choose All.
  2. Optionally set the project category, tags, billable time defaults and custom fields.
  3. Select Create Project.

6. Check the result

Open the new project and check the task lists, due dates, assignees and budget. Fix anything that does not fit this client before your team starts work.

Done when

  • Your project is created from a template and assigned to the right client.
  • Dates, people and the project owner are correct.

Next step: Step 2: Structure the work.
