Keep your tasks up to date and talk about the work on the task itself, so your team and project manager always see the latest without asking.
| What | Complete tasks, add comments and mentions, attach files and break work into subtasks. |
| Why | Updates on the task keep everyone in sync and keep decisions in one place, instead of scattered across email and chat. |
| Who | Anyone who has tasks assigned to them. |
This is step 3 of 5 in the Team Member onboarding path. About 10 minutes.
Work on a task
1. Open a task
Click any task in My tasks or in a project to open it. You will see its description, due date, assignee, comments, files and subtasks.
2. Comment and mention people
- Add a comment to ask a question, share progress or explain a decision.
- Type @ followed by a name to mention a teammate, so they are notified.
3. Attach files
Attach files to the task, or to a comment, so everything related to the work is in one place. See Manage Files on Tasks.
4. Break bigger work into subtasks
If a task has several parts, add subtasks so you can track each one. Each subtask can have its own assignee and due date.
5. Complete the task
When the work is done, tick the task's checkbox to mark it complete. If you need to undo it, you can reopen it. See Completing and Reopening Tasks in List View.
Tip: Follow a task to get notified when it changes, even if it is not assigned to you. See Adding Followers to Project Items.
