Within Teamwork Chat, you can create project channels that link directly back to an associated project in your Teamwork.com site.

Project channels are a useful way to have discussions with all members of a project. You can enable a project channel when first creating a new channel, or by editing an existing channel.

Any member of the project who is already enabled as a user on your Teamwork Chat site will automatically be added to the project channel.

Note: Users cannot leave a project channel.

When creating a new channel or editing an existing channel, you will be able to select the private, public, or project channel as the privacy option.

Only projects you are an administrator of will appear in the project selector dropdown within settings. Only projects with no existing project channel will be displayed.

Note: New channels cannot be created or discovered on the iOS and Android apps, this can only be done via desktop.

Conditions when using project channels

  • Project channels will inherit the project name from Teamwork.com.
    • Any updates made to the project name transfer across into the project channel in Teamwork Chat.
  • You can only have one project channel per project.
  • All project members (including observers) will be added to the project channel by default as long as they are already an active Teamwork Chat user.

Creating a new project channel

To create a new project channel, click the quick add + option in the top right of the navigation bar and select Add channel.

In the Add a channel modal, select Linked to Teamwork Project option, you can then select one of your existing projects to link the channel to.

You will also have the option of selecting a channel avatar. 

Note: Project channels must first be converted to either a public or private channel before they can be deleted.
