Navigate to
Timeline view
The Timeline view gives you a
visual overview of project tasks,
milestones, and dependencies over time so
you can plan and track progress
effectively.
- Navigate to your project.
- Select More... in the project menu. If you see Timeline as a top-level tab, select that instead to go straight there.
- Select Timeline.
Manage the Timeline feature for a project
Timeline can be toggled on or off in each project’s
settings. It's turned on and nested under the project's More... menu by default.
- Switch to
the
project's Settings tab.
- Scroll to the Project
Features panel.
- Toggle on or off Timeline as one of the project's sections.

- Decide the tab's position in the
project's navigation menu. Click and
drag Timeline to:
- Top tabs: Timeline
appears as one of the project's
main feature tabs. Place it in
your preferred position
order.

nested within the
project's More... menu.

project's default landing page for all
members.

Settings panel.

Note
Feature tab
positioning and
start page preferences apply
to all
project members.
Timeline
overview
Learn how the Timeline is structured and how
its controls (such as zoom, weekends, and
filters) affect what you see.
Layout and
navigation
Move around the Timeline using scroll, drag,
or zoom tools to focus on specific timeframes
or task groups.
- Left sidebar: shows your task
lists
and
hierarchy.
- Right panel: displays
the
timeline chart.
- Resize: You can resize the
sidebar for more
chart
space.
- Scroll: Pan
across the timeline easily with
horizontal scrolling.
- Zoom: Use the zoom controls
(Day → Week
→
Month → Quarter → Year) to adjust
how
much of the timeline you
see. For more incremental
adjustments
of
the
timeline zoom you can use the +
and -
options via the zoom tool bar at
the
bottom of the Timeline.
- Today: Center the timeline on
the current date
without
changing zoom level.
- Fit to Screen: Expand the
timeline to full screen view.
Weekends
& skip‑weekends setting
Choose whether weekends are shown on your
Timeline to match your team’s working
schedule.
- Weekends are shaded or visually
distinct so you can differentiate
working vs non‑working days.
- If your Teamwork account is set to
“Skip
Weekends”, tasks cannot start or
end
on
weekends. Weekends are also
excluded
from
duration calculations when this
setting is
on.
- Weekends display visually by default, but can be toggled off in the Customize menu.

Filter, sort, and search
Use filters and sorting options to narrow
your view to specific users, tags, or dates,
and search to find individual tasks
quickly.
- Filters: Show or hide tasks
by
assignee, tags, status, priority,
board column, date created,
etc.
- Sort: Order tasks by
different attributes (e.g.,
assignee or due date).
- Search: Find a task,
milestone or task list by name.
Matching
items remain visible on the
timeline.
Tasks
Understand how each task appears on the
Timeline and how to monitor progress, manage
dependencies, and highlight milestones.
Each task appears in the
timeline as a bar spanning
its
start and end date.
- If a task only a start date or due
date is
set (not both),
the task appears as a single
marker on that date.
- Tasks are coloured by
assignee by default.
Visual task
progress
Each task bar shows progress by shading the
portion that’s complete, giving you an instant
view of how work is advancing.
Progress updates made in any
task-based view (e.g., List, Board)
appear
instantly in Timeline view.
Task
dependencies
Dependencies connect related tasks so changes
in one automatically adjust the others,
keeping your project schedule aligned.

Connector lines (arrows)
link
tasks
that depend on one another (e.g.,
blocked by or waiting on).
- Hover over a task connector
line to highlight both upstream
(predecessor)
and
downstream (successor)
tasks.
- When a dependency constraint is breached, click and drag a connected task to an alternative date. All dependent tasks will auto‑shift to prevent conflicts.
Manage tasks and dependencies
Drag tasks on the Timeline to adjust dates or
dependency links directly without leaving the
view.
- Customize: Manage which task
details are shown in the timeline
(e.g., show/hide tags, assignee,
progress).
- Change dates: Drag and drop a
task bar
horizontally to shift its start and
end
dates (duration stays constant).
- Change duration: Resize a
task by dragging its
left
or right edge to adjust
duration.
- Add a dependency: Drag from one
task
bar’s handle onto another
task.
- Delete a
dependency: Select the
red line
next to
the
task name in the left sidebar and
remove
the dependency in the
popover.
All changes
to tasks and task dependencies apply
instantly across
List,
Board, Table, and other task-based
views.
Milestones
Milestones appear as markers (diamond icons)
on the Timeline to represent key delivery
points or goals within your project.

If a task is moved beyond its
associated milestone date (i.e., the
milestone attached to the task list),
a warning is displayed outlining date
conflicts.
Best practices
- Prompt rescheduling: Use
drag‐and‐drop for quick
rescheduling instead of manual task
management.
- Follow working days: Toggle
the Show
Weekends setting on or
off, depending on your
organization’s
working days.
