When
Use task details whenever you need to update work, add context, collaborate, review supporting information, or manage task progress.

Before you start

You can use the task details in two ways: as task details quick view or the full task details view.
  • Task details quick view: Opens first when you select a task. Use it for quick reviews and updates without leaving your current view.
  • Full task details view: Opens when you expand the task details quick view. Use it when you need more workspace or want to switch between task layouts.
The task details, fields, tabs, and actions you can see depend on your project permissions, task access, enabled features, and connected products.

Open a task to review and update its details from the view you are working in.
  1. Go to an area where tasks are shown, such as My tasks, project List, Table, or Board view, or another task area.
  2. Click the task name (or task card).

The task details quick view opens alongside the view you are working in. Use it for quick reviews and everyday updates without leaving your current page.
  • Review and update common task information.
  • Use work and communication tabs to access related task information such as dependencies, proofs, and time logs.
  • Quickly add comments or review task activity while keeping the context of your current work.

Expand the task into the full task details view when you need more room to work or want to change how task information is displayed. See the next section for more details.

Expand to the full task details view

Expand to the full task details view when you'd like more room to work with, or when you want to switch between Comments view and Details view.
  1. Open the task in the task details quick view.
  2. Click the expand icon (double arrow) in the task panel toolbar.

The task opens in the full task details view. You can collapse the full task details view back into the task details quick view without closing the task, or close task details when you are finished.

Expand icon in the task details panel

The full task details view adds layout controls while providing access to the same task information available in task details quick view.

Choose a layout

Task layouts control how information is arranged in the full task details view. Use the Task layout control in the toolbar to switch between Comments view and Details view.

Comments view

Use Comments view when the task conversation is the main thing you want to work with.
  • Keep comments visible in a right-hand panel while task details remain available on the left.
  • Add comments while keeping task context visible.
  • Use communication tabs such as Comments, Activity, and Info, with Email where available.

Details view

Use Details view when you want more workspace and want key task details visible beside the main task content.
  • The main content area shows the task title, description, work tabs, task sections, comments, and supporting task content.
  • The right-hand panel shows supported task fields and metadata, such as task fields, time information, project information, task list, created date, updated date, and task ID where available.
  • Most sections can be collapsed when you want more room for the information you are actively working with. Hover over a supported section heading to reveal the collapse or expand control.

Customize Details view

In Details view, you can customize which supported task fields appear in the right-hand panel.
  1. Open the task in the full task details view.
  2. Select the layout selector in the toolbar.
  3. Choose Details view.
  4. Use the available customization options to control which supported details appear in the right-hand panel.

Changing which details appear helps you focus the right-hand panel on the task information most relevant to how you work.

Work with task information

Task details are organized so you can review task context, update work, and collaborate from one place.

Task toolbar

Use the toolbar to access task-level actions while you work.
  • Edit the task or access additional task actions from the toolbar where available.
  • Log time or start a timer where time tracking is available.
  • Expand the task details quick view into the full task details view.
In the full task details view:
  • Use the Task layout control in the full task details view to switch between Comments view and Details view.
  • Collapse back into the task details quick view, or close task details when you are finished.

Core task information

Use the main task details area to review and update the information needed to plan, complete, and collaborate on the task.
  • Task title: Review or update the task name.
  • Task attributes: Review and update information such as assignee, dates, priority, stage, tags, estimated time, reminders, followers, and progress where available.
  • Description: Add or update task context so people understand what needs to be done. Add context, instructions, or supporting information. Hover over the description to reveal available actions for editing, expanding, or collapsing longer content.
  • Comments: Collaborate with others and review task discussion.

Work tabs

Use the first row of tabs to move between the task’s core information and supporting task information. Available tabs may vary depending on the task, project setup, enabled features, connected integrations, and connected Teamwork.com products.

Details

Review and update the task's core information.
  • Subtasks: Break the task into smaller pieces of work.
  • Time: Review or add time associated with the task where available.
  • Files: Add or review files attached to the task.

Supporting tabs

Use the supporting tabs to access related task information where available.
  • Custom Fields: Review or update custom field values for the task. If a task has custom fields but no populated values, empty fields may be shown so you can add the relevant details.
  • Dependencies: Review or manage task relationships (tasks that need to be completed before the current task can progress, tasks that depend on the current task).
  • Tickets: Use the Tickets tab to view tickets associated with the task from your connected Teamwork Desk site. When no tickets are associated with the task, the tab shows an empty state. The dedicated tab makes related support work easier to review alongside the task.
  • Proofs: Review proofs associated with the task.
  • Integrations: Review task information connected to supported integrations.

Communication and history tabs

The second set of tabs helps you collaborate, review updates, and check task metadata.
  • Comments: Collaborate with others and review task discussion.
  • Email: Send or review task-related email where this feature is available in your workspace.
  • Activity: Review task history and recent changes.
  • Info: Review supporting task information such as time, project, task list, created date, updated date, and task ID where available.
Collapse or expand

Collapse supported sections whenever you want to focus on the information you're actively working with while keeping additional details close at hand.
Some section actions may appear when you hover over a section. If you do not see an action immediately, move your cursor over the relevant section heading or content area.
