If you are moving from another tool, import your projects and people now, before you build templates and invite your team.

What

Bring your existing projects, tasks and people into Teamwork.com.

Why

Your team starts with their real work already in place, instead of an empty site.

Who

Site owners and site administrators moving from Asana, Basecamp, Trello or Wrike, or with a list of people to add.

This is step 4 of 8 in the Owner and Administrator onboarding path. About 30 minutes, depending on how much you import.

Starting fresh? If you have nothing to import, skip to Step 5: Set your billing and cost rates.

Importing Users and Contacts

2. Prepare before you import

  1. Only bring active work. Archive or leave behind finished projects in your old tool.
  2. Match projects to clients. Make sure each client from step 2 exists, so imported projects can be assigned to them.
  3. Check user types. Use your list from step 3 so people come in as the right user type.
  4. Tell your team. Ask people to pause changes in the old tool while you import, so nothing is missed.

3. Run the import

Follow the steps in the importer article for your tool. Start with one or two projects to check the results before you import everything.

4. Check the results

  1. Open an imported project and check its task lists, tasks, assignees and due dates.
  2. Assign each imported project to the right client if it was not set during import.
  3. Remove any duplicate or test projects.

Done when

  • Your active projects are in Teamwork.com, each assigned to a client.
  • You have spot-checked at least one imported project.

Next step: Step 5: Set your billing and cost rates.
