Before you start

  • Clients view must be enabled: Clients view is available when the feature is turned on in your site settings.
  • Client companies are separate from projects: A client can be associated with one or more projects, giving you a centralized place to manage client-level information.
  • Client currency may be locked: If multi-currency is enabled, the currency selected for a client is locked after the client is created.

How clients work

Clients help you group work, people, and financial context by company. A client record can contain company details, associated contacts, linked projects, notes, and finance-related information such as currency and client-specific rates.
Client companies πŸ’
Represent the external or internal organizations you work with. Client companies can be linked to projects and used for reporting and financial context.
Client contacts πŸ‘€
Represent individual people associated with a client company. Contacts help you keep client stakeholders organized.
Client currency πŸ’±
Used for client financial data when multi-currency is enabled, including quotes, budgets, invoices, billable rates, and cost rates.
Client-specific pricing πŸ’²
Use Client Role Rates to apply negotiated role-based pricing across work for a specific client.

Client currency

One currency per client
A client's currency cannot be changed after the client is created. To use a different currency for future work, create a new client in the correct currency and move future work there.

Best practices

  • Use client companies consistently: Create client companies for organizations you need to track, report on, or bill separately.
  • Choose client currency carefully: If multi-currency is enabled, confirm the client currency before creating the client.
  • Keep client details current: Review client records regularly so contact, address, and profile information stays accurate.
  • Use finance-specific articles for rates: Refer to Client Role Rates, Multi-Currency, and Exchange Rates for detailed finance configuration.
