As a result of additional Microsoft security initiatives, you may need to enable external forwarding in your Microsoft 365 account in order to properly set up forwarding to your Teamwork Desk inboxes.

Automatic email forwarding is blocked by default for some Microsoft 365 accounts as part of their outbound spam protection.

  • If external forwarding is disabled, you may see a bounce message in your Microsoft 365 account when you attempt to set up forwarding to Teamwork Desk.
An administrator in your Microsoft 365 account will need to update the settings to allow automatic external forwarding for all inboxes or for the specific inboxes you want to sync with Teamwork Desk.


All Microsoft 365 mailboxes

To set up automatic forwarding across all of your Microsoft 365 mailboxes, log in to your Microsoft 365 Security & Compliance center and navigate to the anti-spam policies section.

Click the Anti-spam outbound policy (Default) option from the list to open it in a quick view on the right of the screen.

Scroll to the bottom of the outbound policy quick view and click the Edit protection settings link.

In the Protection settings, scroll to the Forwarding rules subsection. Under Automatic forwarding rules, select On - Forwarding is enabled from the dropdown menu before clicking Save.

Individual Microsoft 365 mailboxes

To manage forwarding for specific mailboxes, log in to your Microsoft 365 Security & Compliance center and navigate to the anti-spam policies section.

Click the Create policy option in the top left and select Outbound from the dropdown menu.

In the outbound policy flow, you will need to set a name for your policy. Optionally, you can also set a description. Click Next to proceed.

In the next step, you can search for the email account you are forwarding to Teamwork Desk before clicking Next.

In the Outbound Protection Settings step, scroll to the Forwarding rules subsection. Under Automatic forwarding rules, select On - Forwarding is enabled from the dropdown. Click Next to proceed.

The final step of the process allows you to review your selected policy settings.

Click Create to complete the setup for your new outbound policy.
